Workshop Program

No preparation is required for workshops.

①Hyoso Mounting Workshop

Learn to back calligraphy works and ink wash paintings. We will use a brush to glue washi paper to the back of a painting and a calligraphy work. This process is called "backing." The completed pieces will be handed to you inside a folder. Select one calligraphy work and one artwork for making a total of two pieces.

②Ink Wash Painting Workshop

Paint on autograph cardboards using pigments and sumi ink. Display stand included.

④Hyoso Mounting Class

Learn how to make kakejiku hanging scrolls. Be prepared with a piece of Honshi paper. It could be your own painting or calligraphy. The entire process will take at least 6 classes around 3 months. All tools are available for rental. what you need to bring are a notebook, calculator, and hand towel.

⑤Ink Wash Painting Class

Instructor: Yoshie Masuda; Held classes at Hoshigaoka Terrace before; Has been teaching ink wash painting & Japanese painting for 20 years. Many of ink wash paintings are painted with ink, however in this course, we will use pigment to draw flowers, butterflies, insects, and birds.
